Jason Golz, CFA
Founder & Managing Partner
Jason Golz is the founder of communications advisory firm Highline Group. He has served as trusted counsel to leaders at organizations large and small, public and private, helping them communicate through critical moments and connect the dots on a wide range of business matters.
Before launching Highline Group, Jason served as the communications lead at SoftBank Vision Fund, Prologis, and Sea Limited, advising across the waterfront of corporate situations, and partnering with numerous portfolio companies, from Compass to Shopee to Uber.
Prior to these in-house roles, Jason was a partner at Brunswick Group, where he advised clients on corporate reputation, investor relations, and media relations retainers, as well as on IPOs, mergers and acquisitions and shareholder activism defense. In addition, Jason created and led the Capital Markets Advisory practice and its IPO Prep program, designed to prepare private companies for the communication rigors of being publicly traded.
IPOs and new listings included Facebook, Virgin America, Roku, and CareFusion. Domestic and cross-border transactions included Silver Lake’s LBO of Dell, Windstream’s spin-off of network assets into a REIT, Trulia’s acquisition by Zillow, BGI's purchase of Complete Genomics (the first ever Chinese acquisition of a US-listed company), and Intel’s first-of-its-kind investment in ASML. He has also worked on dual-track IPO/M&A processes for Skype and Mercury Payment Systems, as well as EBay’s activism defense against Carl Icahn.
Jason advised Silver Lake Partners on corporate reputation matters, as well as key investment and exit announcements for companies including Alibaba, Endeavor, Global Blue, GoDaddy, Motorola Solutions and SolarCity. For Prologis, he led communications for the acquisition of DCT Industrial Trust, and created, launched and executed a pivotal thought leadership campaign for its CEO.
While at the Vision Funds, Jason provided frequent counsel to portfolio company founders, and handled numerous media engagements, assertively engaging reporters to communicate the firm’s narrative in the midst of significant scrutiny of the firm.
He has a broad professional network and experience building and leading collaborative teams. Jason always aligns communications strategy to business objectives and relies on data to shape campaigns and measure results.
Jason grew up in Colorado, but lives in San Francisco with his wife and three sons. When he's not advising clients, he is usually making or fixing something, or spending time outside, preferably in the mountains. Jason graduated from Westmont College in Santa Barbara with a BA in Business and Economics, and was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2004.
